Run for the Cure

My dear friend Maribel from my church in Grimsby passed away this past week from breast cancer. She was in treatment when I was in high school, so it was a long fight for her. She was strong through all of her chemo, I remember her coming to bell choir practice exhausted from treatment and with her tongue too swollen to speak, but still happy to be there and enjoying every minute. In honour of Maribel, and for her husband, Rick, I am planning to participate in the Run for the Cure on October 3rd. Let me know if you want to sponsor me...you know I hate asking for money, but for this I am willing.

One for the parents...

So I was looking up the public swim times at my local rec centre and there is a time designated for "50+/Disabled". Hahaha. Bet my parents would loooove that.

New Car!

Yes, I officially have a new car. It looks just like Adam's, a dark blue Honda Civic (except mine's an automatic 'cause I'm a big chicken about driving standard). Of course I made an ultimate mix cd for the new car titled 'Memories of Road Trips Past' It includes such classics as:
Natural Blues (in honour of spending 17 hours in Jared's topaz in order to go to a Moby concert in Albany)
River Deep, Mountain High (for the Tina Turner sing-a-long that sacka,'chella and I had in long weekend traffic in TO)
Proud (from the qaf soundtrack, and pretty much an entire summer of roadtrips)
Angel of Harlem (from my all-time favourite car album, Rattle and Hum)
Always on My Mind (msn singing memories...hours in an office wishing I was on a roadtrip)
Son of A Preacherman (for the quad)
There were also some movie influenced choices like Edge of Seventeen, Tiny Dancer etc.
Overall, a fine mix for a fine car.

Only in Canada

On Saturday Meg, Anna, Nalin and I were enjoying a nice lazy afternoon on a patio in the market sipping sangria when the Bachelor Party arrived. There were about 25-30? guys in matching t-shirts and one man with bunny ears, a tutu and a 'Getting Married' beater. Then they all start chanting 'Joe! Joe! Joe!' and I figure that's the guy getting married...nope. They all gather 'round to get their pictures taken with Joe Clark who is walking home from the market with his wife and groceries. Is there any other country in which a former prime minister would be doing this? I can't think of one.

Creak, Groan, Creak

Woe is me, I am soooo out of shape! My butt hurts from biking to work, plus this morning I biked to a (painfully early) breakfast meeting and was stood up, so went home, then biked to work. So.much.uphill. But I know that if I just give up and take the bus I will never get into shape and end up being some kind of donut-and-bacon-scoffing whale type person. On an interesting note, yesterday I spent a couple of hours touring the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario where I am hoping to work with the Spiritual Services director as the community service portion of my job. It seems like a great place, and the guy was really nice so I hope it will work out. (plus many hot paediatric man nurses...mmmm...)

So here I am in Ottawa, where it is a-ok. Nice weather, pretty bike paths, good hanging out time with Meg...and the cat of doom. My cousin's cat Moby is a nighttime poop machine right now. Grrrr...morning cat poo on the carpet is not my friend! Three times. Also I saw a slightly terrifying thing scutter across my room this morning...I named it Son of Monty.
Also, for anyone who cares, the Buffy Season 1 dvd set is on sale for eighteen bucks at Future Shop right now.
